Mail-In Diagnostic & Repair Terms and Conditions

Last updated:

These Mail-In Diagnostic & Repair Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) apply to all computers, laptops, gaming consoles, mobile phones, tablets, components, and other electronic devices (“Device”) submitted to Answers Computers through our mail-in diagnostic and repair service.

By purchasing a mail-in diagnostic service, submitting a Device, or shipping a Device to Answers Computers, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms.

1. $85 Mail-In Diagnostic Fee

All Devices submitted through our mail-in service are subject to an $85 diagnostic fee.

The $85 diagnostic fee is non-refundable once the Device has been received and the diagnostic process has begun.

If you approve a repair performed by Answers Computers, the $85 diagnostic fee will be credited toward the cost of the approved repair.

If you decline the repair, choose not to proceed, or the Device is determined to be non-repairable, the diagnostic fee remains non-refundable.

Payment of the diagnostic fee does not guarantee that the Device can be repaired, that replacement parts will be available, or that a specific problem will be identified.

2. Shipping Your Device to Us

The customer is solely responsible for the Device and package while it is being shipped to Answers Computers.

Answers Computers is not responsible for packages that are lost, stolen, delayed, misdelivered, or damaged while being shipped to us.

Responsibility for the Device does not transfer to Answers Computers until the package has been successfully delivered to and physically received by Answers Computers.

A shipping label being created, a carrier accepting the package, or tracking information showing the package as “in transit” does not constitute receipt by Answers Computers.

The customer is responsible for any claims against the shipping carrier for loss or damage occurring before the Device is received by Answers Computers.

3. Packaging Requirements

The customer is solely responsible for properly and securely packaging their Device for shipment.

Devices must be packaged with sufficient protection appropriate for the Device's size, weight, value, and fragility.

Answers Computers is not responsible for damage caused by improper, inadequate, insufficient, or inappropriate packaging.

If a Device arrives damaged due to the manner in which it was packaged or shipped, the customer is responsible for that damage.

Customers should use a sturdy shipping box with adequate protective material surrounding the Device. Whenever possible, the Device should not be able to move freely inside the shipping container.

  • Cracked screens or housings
  • Broken ports or connectors
  • Bent or broken components
  • Damaged circuit boards
  • Loose internal components
  • Impact or crushing damage
  • Damage caused by components moving inside the package
  • Damage resulting from insufficient cushioning or protection

4. Shipping Insurance Is Strongly Recommended

We strongly recommend that every customer insure their package for the full replacement value of the Device.

Shipping insurance may provide protection if your Device is lost or damaged while being transported to Answers Computers.

Customers should retain their tracking number, shipping receipt, insurance documentation, and photographs of the Device and its packaging before shipment.

Answers Computers is not responsible for filing claims for damage or loss that occurs before the Device is received by us and cannot guarantee that a shipping carrier will approve an insurance claim.

5. Condition of Device Upon Arrival

The customer is responsible for the condition of the Device upon delivery to Answers Computers.

Answers Computers may photograph or otherwise document the Device and its packaging when it is received.

The condition documented when the Device is received may be used to establish the condition in which the Device arrived.

  • Physical condition
  • Packaging condition
  • Cracks, dents, scratches, or other damage
  • Missing or loose components
  • Liquid damage or corrosion
  • Evidence of previous repairs
  • Missing screws, covers, or other parts
  • Tampering or modification
  • Other relevant conditions

6. Diagnostic Authorization

By submitting your Device, you authorize Answers Computers to perform reasonable diagnostic procedures necessary to determine the cause of the reported problem.

Diagnostics may require opening or disassembling the Device, removing components, testing individual components, connecting diagnostic equipment, testing with known-good parts, running software or hardware diagnostics, performing electrical testing, or performing other procedures reasonably necessary to diagnose the Device.

Some Devices may already be in a damaged, unstable, or deteriorated condition when received.

A Device suffering from liquid damage, corrosion, electrical damage, overheating, previous repair attempts, physical damage, component failure, or other pre-existing conditions may deteriorate or completely fail during reasonable diagnostic procedures.

Answers Computers is not responsible for failure resulting from a pre-existing or underlying condition of the Device when reasonable diagnostic procedures are performed.

7. Repair Estimates and Approval

After completing diagnostics, Answers Computers may provide the customer with a repair estimate or recommended course of action.

The customer may choose whether to approve or decline the proposed repair.

The $85 diagnostic fee will be credited toward an approved repair performed by Answers Computers.

Repair estimates are based on the information available at the time of diagnosis. Additional problems or hidden damage may be discovered after repair work begins.

If additional work would materially increase the repair cost, Answers Computers will obtain customer authorization before proceeding with those additional charges.

Replacement part availability and pricing may change and are not guaranteed until the applicable parts are obtained.

8. Data and Customer Backups

Customers are responsible for backing up all important data before shipping a Device to Answers Computers.

Electronic diagnostics and repairs can involve circumstances where data is lost, corrupted, deleted, inaccessible, or otherwise affected.

Repairs may require operating system repair or reinstallation, factory resets, firmware updates, storage-device replacement, component replacement, or other procedures that may affect stored data.

Unless the customer has specifically purchased or authorized a data recovery or backup service, Answers Computers does not guarantee preservation or recovery of data.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Answers Computers is not responsible for loss of data resulting from a Device's existing condition, hardware failure, diagnostic procedures, or authorized repair procedures.

9. Passwords and Device Access

Certain diagnostics may require access to the Device's operating system, software, settings, or other functions.

The customer is responsible for providing any passwords, PINs, encryption recovery keys, or other information reasonably necessary to diagnose and test the Device.

Failure to provide required access information may prevent Answers Computers from completing certain diagnostic procedures.

Customers should remove unnecessary confidential or sensitive information from the Device before shipment whenever reasonably possible.

10. Ownership and Authorization

By submitting a Device to Answers Computers, you represent that you are the lawful owner of the Device or have permission from the lawful owner to authorize diagnostic and repair services.

Answers Computers reserves the right to refuse service where ownership is disputed or where we reasonably believe servicing the Device would violate applicable law.

11. Accessories

Do not send accessories unless they are necessary to reproduce the problem or we specifically request them.

Accessories may include chargers, power adapters, cables, controllers, cases, removable storage devices, SIM cards, memory cards, discs, external devices, or similar items.

If accessories are necessary for diagnosis, customers should clearly identify everything included in the package.

12. Devices That Cannot Be Repaired

Not every Device can be successfully repaired.

A Device may be considered non-repairable because of extensive damage, unavailable replacement parts, board-level damage, corrosion, previous repair attempts, discontinued components, excessive repair cost, or other technical reasons.

If Answers Computers determines that a Device cannot reasonably be repaired, the $85 diagnostic fee remains non-refundable.

Payment of the diagnostic fee is for the diagnostic service performed and does not guarantee a successful repair.

13. Declining a Repair

Customers are not required to proceed with a repair after receiving an estimate.

If you decline the proposed repair, the $85 diagnostic fee remains non-refundable and the Device may be returned to you after applicable return shipping charges have been paid.

14. Return Shipping

Unless specifically stated otherwise, the customer is responsible for applicable return shipping costs.

Answers Computers will use reasonable care when packaging a Device for return shipment.

Any shipping options, insurance coverage, signature requirements, or other available shipping services may be subject to additional charges.

Once a returned package has been accepted by the shipping carrier, loss, theft, delay, misdelivery, or shipping damage may be subject to the carrier's terms, available insurance coverage, and applicable law.

15. Pre-Existing Damage and Previous Repairs

Answers Computers is not responsible for defects or damage that existed before the Device was received.

Some pre-existing damage may not become apparent until the Device is opened, tested, powered on, or otherwise diagnosed.

  • Liquid exposure
  • Corrosion
  • Impact or drops
  • Electrical surges
  • Overheating
  • Failed components
  • Previous repair attempts
  • Improper modifications
  • Missing components
  • Manufacturing defects
  • Normal wear and deterioration

16. Unclaimed or Abandoned Devices

Customers are responsible for responding to repair estimates, payment requests, return-shipping requests, and other communications concerning their Device.

Devices that remain unpaid or unclaimed, or for which the customer fails to provide necessary instructions, may be treated as abandoned only after any notice and waiting period required by applicable law.

Answers Computers reserves the right to handle abandoned property as permitted by applicable law.

17. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Answers Computers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from the use of our mail-in diagnostic or repair service, including loss of use, loss of data, lost profits, or business interruption.

Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude or limit any liability or consumer right that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

18. Right to Refuse Service

Answers Computers reserves the right to refuse diagnostic or repair services when reasonably necessary, including for Devices that present a safety hazard, contain prohibited or hazardous materials, have extensive contamination, have been excessively modified or tampered with, or cannot reasonably be serviced.
